Ignore Rules

Ignore rules silence property-level changes that don't matter, so real configuration drift stays visible in the Changes view. StratoLens ships with around 35 default rules that hide common Azure platform metadata, and you can add or remove rules at any time. Manage the full rule list at Settings > Ignore List.

What You'll Learn

This documentation covers the rule list itself, for the in-diff workflow that creates rules from a single click, see Change Tracking.

  • How tenant-wide ignore rules work and what defaults ship out of the box
  • How to find a rule with search and the resource-type filter
  • How to add a rule from the Add Rule dialog (advanced)
  • How to remove a rule and what removal affects
  • Where this page sits relative to Scope Exclusions, the unrelated section above it

Key Capabilities

Smart Defaults Out of the Box

Around 35 rules ship with every install, covering well-known Azure platform fields like etag, provisioning state, and last-modified timestamps. New users don't see noise on day one.

Searchable Rule List

Substring search by property key plus a resource-type filter. The two combine, so you can narrow on, for example, etag rules scoped to virtual machines in two clicks.

Add and Remove Anytime

Add new rules through an Add Rule dialog. Remove any rule (including defaults) through a confirmation dialog. Changes apply tenant-wide, immediately, and to every future scan.

Audit-Logged Changes

Every add and remove writes an audit entry tagged with the user, so you have a record of who tuned the rule list and when.

Related Features

Most users land here from the Changes view. The two features are tightly coupled.

  • Change Tracking, the Changes view, where most rules are added in the first place via the eye-slash icon.
  • Comparing Scans walks through the eye-slash workflow that auto-detects path vs. field-name rules.
  • Scope Exclusions lives on the same Settings page (Data Exclusions) but is a separate feature, it controls which management groups, subscriptions, or resource groups get scanned at all.

Documentation Sections

There's a single section for managing the rule list. The fastest way to add a rule for a specific noisy field is the eye-slash button in the Changes view, not this page.
